In 751 (Tenpyo Shoho 3), Fujiwara Minatohime of Kukkasho in Suo Province (Yamaguchi Prefecture), who was a strong believer in the Bodhisattva Kannon, felt a connection with Kannon Bodhisattva and founded a hermitage in the village of Kanaoka. It is said that it began when the Senju Kannon was enshrined there.
