Okayama Prefecture is known to be a place of mild climate. However, we have much snow during wintertime in the Mimasaka Area, in the northern part of Okayama. There you can enjoy winter sports like skiing. Also, this area used to have a road called “Izumo Kaido” which connects Izumo (Shimane Prefecture) and Yamato (Nara Prefecture) running through the area since olden days. It is quite enjoyable to visit the old lodging towns, such as Shinjo, Katsuyama, Kuze and Tsuyama, and take in their classic streetscape. This will be one of joys of journey.
The “Mimasaka Area” is the area including Tsuyama City in northern part of Okayama Prefecture.
