Bizen Pottery
Bizen Pottery is a traditional art more than 1000-year-old that is created with earth and fire and has a simple texture achieved without glaze or ceramic painting. This is one of the most famous potteries in Japan.
Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art
This museum creates an impressive atmosphere as it integrates the works of a world-famous architect, Arata Isozaki, and three other groups of artists and the building.
Tsuyama Wonder Museum
A museum of natural science in which approximately 22,000 articles, including stuffed specimens and samples of rare animals and fossil remains, are exhibited.
Nariwa Museum
This art museum mainly exhibits fine works of Torajiro Kojima, an oil painter from Nariwa Town, and aims to honor the memory of Torajiro Kojima. Tadao Ando, a world-famous architect, designed the building.
Chikkyo Art Museum, Kasaoka
In this art museum, many works of Chikkyo Ono are exhibited. Chikkyo was born in Kasaoka City, and his work is famous for its expression of beauty in nature, and its use of pastel colors and rhythmical touch.
Hanatori Otsuka Art Museum
Many modern Japanese and western paintings, mainly the work of Keika Kanashima, a Japanese-style art painter, are exhibited here.
Ibara Municipal Denchu Art Museum
Works of Denchu Hiragushi are exhibited in this museum. Denchu was a master artist of modern sculpture and devoted his life to producing sculptures until he died at the age of 107.
Kurashiki Archaeological Museum
This museum of archaeology, based in an old storehouse, exhibits archaeological findings such as stone implements and bronze, bell-shaped vessels from the Kibi Area (southern part of Okayama Prefecture).
Kurashiki City Art Museum
Excellent fine art, mainly of Yohson Ikeda, an artist of Japanese-style painting, but also featuring other artists who have connections with local Okayama, are collected and exhibited here. The art collections cover a broad range, including both Japanese and western style paintings, watercolor paintings, engravings, sketches, sculptures, and crafts.
Ohara Museum of Art
This is the first Japanese private art museum. It was established in 1930 by Magosaburo Ohara, a business person based in Kurashiki who took an active role as a tycoon in industry and who was aiming to collect arts mainly from western countries, as well as to honor the memory of Torajiro Kojima, an artist passed away a year before the establishment of this museum.
Bizen Pottery Traditional and Contemporary Art Museum
A variety of Bizen Pottery having over a millennium of history, early to modern, as well as pieces crafted by masters designated as “living national treasures”, are collected and exhibited here.
Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum
This unique museum in Japan is dedicated to the collection of swords. Celebrated swords, including “Bizen Osafune,” are exhibited in the museum. You can also observe sword-forging activities as well.
Hayashibara Museum of Art
This is a museum where utensils that lords used to use, along with antiques, including swords inherited from the Ikeda family who was the former domain lord of Okayama Area, are collected.
Yumeji Art Museum
This building was erected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yumeji Takehisa, an artist famous for Japanese-style paintings of beautiful women. In this art museum, the original paintings and information materials about Yumeji are exhibited.
Okayama Orient Museum
This is one of the few oriental art museums in Japan focused on collecting oriental art work from western Asia, including Iran, Iraq, and Syria, and including pieces from ancient times to the modern day.
Okayama Prefectural Museum
Arts and crafts from ancient time up through the modern years are exhibited in this museum, including historical materials, swords, and Bizen Pottery.
The Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art
Excellent works from artists connected with local Okayama. The art collections cover a broad range of arts, including Japanese and western style paintings, rare antique paintings and sculptures.
Kurashiki Bikan Area
A cityscape with white walls extending along the Kurashiki River. It is designated by the government as a historic building preservation area.
