Hikasa Rose Garden/ Wake Town

Higasa Rose Garden, located within Wake Town's community facility "Morioka Yuyu House," is next to the former site of Higasa Elementary School, and its 250 roses of approximately 140 varieties are grown by local residents. At 420 square meters, it's roughly the size of a basketball court, but the roses are compactly arranged in three dimensions, such as rose walls and arches, making it a sight to behold! It's also close to the parking lot, making it easy to get to.

Roses at the entrance

At the entrance, you will be greeted by white and pink roses. They are a variety called Pierre de Ronsard. They are so cute with their color that resembles white peach!

Photogenic spot No. 1

Roses are grown along the wall that surrounds the garden, making it look like a rose wall. This is the rose wall that separates the rose section for sale from the viewing section, which you can see just after entering the garden. If you take a photo from the road outside the grounds, it will look like this.

Photogenic spot #2

There is a rose arch in the garden. If you take a photo from the side of the observation deck, you will get a photo with depth. There are roses in the Oku, roses above, and roses in the foreground!

Photogenic spot #3

There are also some beautiful roses around the back of the garden building! This is also a wall of yellow roses, so you can take photos with the entire background of roses.

Rose Wall

Dark pink roses, yellow roses, pale pink roses... a colorful wall of roses. If you take a photo with this wall in the background, it will look like the photo below.

Photogenic spot #4

This photo was taken through the Chuo flower bed and facing the western wall of the garden. From here, you can also take a photo with a full view of roses, creating a sense of depth.

Owl figurine

Maybe Hikasa's Hi? Owls are welcome too!

The Rose

I chose a beautiful rose and took a close-up shot. It's a variety called Gartenzaber. Each petal is delicately overlapping, creating a truly beautiful form! If you go with a friend, try using your smartphone light to take a photo. However, the key to taking a beautiful photo is to not shine the light directly in front of the rose! As you can see from the shadow of the rose, the light is shining from a diagonal side. If you shine the light from the front, the photo will look like it was taken with a flash, but if you shine the light from about a 45-degree angle, you'll get a more impressive photo of the rose.

Tea-scented roses

A yellow rose named Charlotte. It smells like tea! The lovely scent brings a smile to your face. This photo clearly shows that the light is coming from the left. By taking a photo that makes use of the white space and including the surrounding buds, rather than just the single flower, you can create a sense of spaciousness and elegance in the photo.

Cut flower sales

Cut flowers are also sold near the entrance. A dedicated staff member will cut the flowers on the spot from the plants for sale and you can then purchase them. This is only possible when a dedicated staff member is present, and some flowers are for sale and some are not, so please speak to the person at the tent at the entrance.

Matsuyama Park Rose Garden, Kurashiki City

Matsuyama Park in Kurashiki City is a comprehensive park with an area of 12.5 hectares. In the rose garden within the park, you can enjoy 3,000 colorful roses planted on the slope. There are several parking lots, but we recommend the nearest third parking lot (circled in Aka).

Rose garden on the west side of the parking lot

As you leave the parking lot, you're greeted by a wonderful fragrance! You'll be excited to smell the scent before you even see the roses! As you walk down the Saka, roses blooming all over the vast grounds will catch your eye. Different colors are planted next to each other, so it's really colorful! Cherry blossoms and azaleas are beautiful, but roses are the only ones that allow you to enjoy such a variety of colors.

Tips for taking great photos

The trick to taking a great photo is to take a photo with the Mori on the other side of the pond in the background, without including any man-made objects such as buildings, electric poles, signs, or paved roads. If you keep this in mind when taking photos, you will end up with a more photogenic photo.

Paths connecting the rose gardens

There is a small path on the south side of the parking lot, and if you walk along it you will reach another rose garden. For those who don't usually walk much or who are not very active, you can kill two birds with one stone by getting some good exercise while looking at the beautiful roses!

Rose garden on the east side of the parking lot

This is the rose garden on the east side of the parking lot. Here too, roses of a variety of colors are planted, like a rainbow shower, with vibrant Aka, elegant pinks, bright yellows, and soft purples. That's a lot of roses on such a large site. I can't help but think how hard it must be for the person who manages them... but I'm grateful to have been able to see these beautiful roses.

Photogenic spots

You can enjoy the view in the cool shade of the trees. This is a recommended spot for taking photos. It's rare to find a place where you can relax on a bench with so many roses right in front of you! I took a short break while admiring the beautiful roses. I could hear the sound of cherry blossom leaves rustling in the wind, and the voices of Japanese bush warblers and great tits. The wide variety of vibrant roses that met my eyes...it was so relaxing.

Seto Naikai Quartet

Matsuyama Park is very large, with a large playground, a plum grove, a Japanese garden, and more. The photo shows a spectacular view from the "Chibikko Hiroba" playground. Fresh greenery, the Mizushima Industrial Complex, the Setouchi islands, and the Seto Naikai in the sky - a quartet! It's a mysterious sight, like a mirage, but it's real!
