Naruto Whirlpools

Japan, 772-0000 Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture

The Naruto Whirlpools are a "natural phenomenon" caused by the strong currents generated by the difference in tidal levels between the Seto Naikai and the Kii Suido. The whirlpools, which reach their largest size during the spring and autumn tides and can reach a diameter of 20 to 30 meters, are said to be the largest in the world. The most impressive whirlpools occur during the time of day when the tidal currents are strongest, and they cannot be seen during periods of calm. Please check the tide table for the best viewing times.
