Lacquer Drops Hiruzen Lacquerware Experience Tour

[Experience the revival of Gohara lacquerware, a tradition in the Hiruzen-kogen Heights] Gohara lacquerware is a handicraft that has been around for about 600 years, in which raw Japanese chestnut trees that grow in Hiruzen are sliced into round shapes and painted with lacquer collected from the forest. Made for everyday use, the lacquerware has a warmth to it that can be felt through the grain of the wood. It was once discontinued, but was revived in the 2000s, and now David Dilong is devoting himself to the craft every day, with the desire to "continue Japanese culture." This bus tour will let you learn about the history of "Gohara lacquerware" and experience "tapping" to collect precious domestic lacquer sap. You can also try your hand at "fuki-urushi" lacquering, which makes the most of the wood grain.
