Manabeshima Island
Kasaoka City
An “island of cats” with the appearance of an old fishing village
Overlooking the many beautiful islands of the Setonaikai, Manabeshima Island is a relaxing island with a laid-back feel and the landscape of a fishing village. The island has also been used as a location for a number of Japanese movies, and visitors to the island are greeted by cats wherever they go. A French painter once published a book of illustrations depicting Manabeshima Island’s beautiful landscape and the everyday scenery of the island and its people. After the book was published in France, the number of tourists visiting the island has increased. Visitors are encouraged to sample the island’s fish cuisine made with fresh fish from the Setonaikai.
