The space is much larger than you would imagine from the exterior, which sits quietly in a residential area.

Renovated from a traditional Japanese house that is over 100 years old, Kurashiki no Yado Retreat KOBAYASHI boasts an impressive 520m² floor space and 11 rooms (LLDDK). It can accommodate up to 10 guests.
It opened in July 2024.

Every time you open a sliding door, a unique room opens up, making it feel like a maze.

Each room is decorated with a different theme, with gorgeous kimonos and May dolls on display, walls painted with Bengara (Red Pigment), and Katsushika Hokusai (Renowned Ukiyo-e Artist) and dragons rising into the sky.

The owner, Kobayashi Kobayashi, has a playful spirit that further enhances the sense of adventure. Seven glass balls (legendary balls associated with dragons) are hidden somewhere in the spacious inn, allowing both children and adults to enjoy a treasure hunt.

2. Former Yoshida Hikoshichi House(Kurashiki City)

The Former Yoshida Hikoshichi House offers the romantic and extraordinary experience of staying in a cultural property.
This wooden, single-story building was built in 1943 as company housing for workers at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mizushima Aircraft Factory. It has been designated a national tangible cultural property as a valuable piece of architecture that conveys the lifestyle of wartime Japan to the present day.
It was built in a rush in just one year during the extraordinary circumstances of wartime. Today, only this one building remains, but it is said that in the past, identical buildings stood in a row stretching for 2-3km.

The pillars and beams, which are slightly tilted but still retain the appearance of the time, and the nostalgic glass doors give you an idea of the warmth of the wood and the lives of the people who lived there.

In 2017, it was renovated by local volunteers and became a popular gathering place, but it remained unused until July 2025, when it was reborn as a Entire house rental accommodation facility.

While preserving its historical value, the bathrooms and facilities have been renovated to make them user-friendly so that modern travelers can stay comfortably.

The apartment is equipped with a fully equipped kitchen, a washer/dryer, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

At night, you can enjoy images that fill the entire wall with a 120-inch projector.

The owner is Kobayashi Kobayashi, who also manages the Kurashiki no Yado Retreat KOBAYASHI . Having participated in the renovation project himself, he has a deep attachment to the building, and has volunteered to operate it as an inn, saying, "A building continues to live on when people use it. I want to preserve this precious cultural asset in good condition for the future."
Why not spend some quiet and enriching time here while reflecting on the historical background of Japan?

4. Shimotsui Base (Shimotsui, Shimotsui Kurashiki City )

In the quiet Port town of Shimotsui , Kurashiki City , at the end of a narrow road that cars cannot pass through, you will find Shimotsui Base , a Entire house rental house that feels like a secret hideout for adults.

The owner renovated this over 110-year-old traditional house himself using recycled materials. The result was a unique space that opened as a lodging in March 2025. It can accommodate up to three people.

The building was once home to the owner, who ran an electronics store, and the retro interior is alive with old televisions and black rotary telephones, telling the story of the building's history.
The owner's sense shines through in every wall, floor, and light fixture, and you can feel the warmth that comes from the care that has gone into creating it. As the owner says, "I want you to enjoy the charm of an old building, which is different from a shiny new building," this is a space that is irresistible for those who love DIY and old things.

The garage also houses two classic cars: a Subaru 360, affectionately known as the "Ladybug," and a Mitsubishi 500 with its charming, rounded shape.
Even if you're not a car enthusiast, spending time admiring these rare and famous cars is sure to be exciting.
The kitchen is located in a separate building, so it is recommended to enjoy a BBQ with friends in the evening.

The owner is a multi-talented person who not only does DIY but also enjoys pottery and restoring old cars, and his lifestyle is reflected throughout this interesting inn.
